new methods

On the path of experimentation. I think I'm becoming more and more abstract as I work. And I end up staring at my painting for hours trying to see weird things. I should change my title to full time starer of abstract paintings.

I was struggling as usual on this one. I found out really quick as I was painting that tree bark has so much subtle color variation (most of which I couldn't capture). Then when I ran out of time on the painting I noticed the contrast was much higher in the shadow vs. light category...

Just when you think you've kind of tackled one area correctly, another one slaps you in the face..

Next time I'll bring a bigger thinking cap.

replenishing my oil paints

i've been starting to do some longer figure paintings these days at this school in Belmont (www.bacaa.org).. i'm working on a new one, which i can't talk about... but here's the last one i did..



i figure a couple of details won't hurt either, since when i look at small pictures of paintings i get annoyed sometimes that i can't look a bit closer at the artist's work..

this is one of my attempts at karma.. i hope to see lots more details of paintings in the future... or at least imagine them.

sidetracked in my sparetime

i told myself i was going to only work on this for one hour tonight... but given the hours i already put in it and the yearning to do another piece, i decided i would get it to a certain level and then post it...

in this case my painting time is the reason why i'm not getting other areas of life covered.. ugh

i guess i'll have to save the errands for another day..

we painted on a blazingly hot rooftop.. and surprisingly the burn was mild.
as for the painting, it was tough because buildings frustrate me.. yet i am strangely attracted to them - hence the artist's dilemma

Here's a piece I struggled through in spurts for the last two weeks. Is it done? I'm not sure, but I want to work on another one now, so I'm posting it as is.

John: I was inspired to write a book before, and when I finished it I realized how much more knowledge I had gained while not writing it. I felt like writing another book.

So I think I'm going to write a more solid book when my brain knows more...

i lucked out on this one. the fog rolled in as i was painting the bridge, and as soon as i painted in the fog, the sun came back out with a vengeance.. timing is key.. then again, i wish i had more of it.
